“Murals”, installation at Albrechtsberg Palace, Albrechtsberg an der Pielach, 2024

“Murals” responds to the ongoing sixth mass extinction, drawing attention to lesser-known species that face imminent disappearance. The installation at the historic renaissance palace Albrechtsberg consists of collages that merge biblical motifs like the Garden of Eden, or the Flood—with portraits of endangered species painted in the style of medieval bestiaries. Presented as fragmentary wall paintings, the works blend past and present into dark prophetic visions. By placing these “ancient” murals into historic architecture, the artist evokes a sense of unearthed warnings resurfacing in a time of ecological crisis.

With this series, Ostrovskaya aims to broaden public sensitivity to biodiversity loss and humanity’s impact on fragile ecosystems.
